    Brief information about the Faculty

    The Faculty of Management Sciences provides undergraduate and post-graduate programmmes awarding Bachelor of Science (B.Sc), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science (M.Sc), Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Degrees in Accounting, Finance and Banking, Management, Marketing and Hospitality Management and Tourism. The B.Sc. programmes are particularly designed to prepare students to become professionals in all the functional areas of Management Sciences. This is achieved by providing a broad, qualitative, analytical and highly technologically-based management science education; necessary for success in public/private sector and society at large. The post-graduate programmes are designed to expose students to a framework of theories and develop a set of analytical tools which equip them with quantitative and analytical skills for creative decision making in relevant spheres of industry, administration, academics/research. The post-graduate diploma prepares qualified men and women whose previous training are deficient in business courses, for entry into the faculty’s Master programmes.

Brief Information about the Faculty of Law:

For nearly forty years of the establishment of the University of Port Harcourt as one of Nigeria’s second generation Universities, it did not have a Faculty of Law.  Hence, the recent establishment of a Faculty of Law in the University of Port Harcourt is a welcomed development, considering the intense clamour from individuals and organizations for the establishment of a Faculty of Law in the University to satisfy the increasing demand for quality legal education in the regionin particular, and the nation at large.A major objective of the Faculty of Law which has two departments – Department of Public Law and Department of Private Law – is to develop, promote and sustain innovative and high quality legal education and research. To this effect,in its unique way, the University has recruited experienced and seasoned academic staff to methodically guide prospective students through the University’s law programme. An environment conducive for legal studies, research and community engagement with the law has also been provided by the University.Therefore, the new Faculty of Law promises all prospective students excellence in teaching and all-around satisfaction in learning.

BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT THE FACULTY

 

On the proposal of the late Prof. Ikenna Nzimiro in 1981, the Faculty of Clinical Sciences was approved by Senate for the College of Health Sciences. It was only in 1999 that the Faculty became operational as a Faculty in the University. (In 2002 Senate approved the establishment of Nursing in the Faculty.  The programme for the award of B.Sc. Nursing Science commenced in 2006 and received the Nursing and Midwifery Council accreditation in 2011). In keeping with the overall academic aims of the University of Port Harcourt, the Faculty of Clinical Sciences seeks, to train physicians, nurses and other professionals in medicine and related fields in degree and non-degree programmes. Such training emphasizing a team approach to health care delivery. This relates to training of all grades of health personnel, both in aims and in operation to national policies of health in order to provide comprehensive health care to the community by curative, preventive and promotion of health in rural or urban communities. It also offers training of a standard that would enable the graduate build further upon his/her professional knowledge and skills for the promotion of a high standard of health care. The overall training will contribute to national development, self-reliance and unity through the advancement and propagation of knowledge in the field of health sciences. Knowledge acquired will be used for the service of community and humanity.
