APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION INTO GRADUATE PROGRAMMES OF CENTRE FOR OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT (COHSE) 2016/2017 SESSION

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following Graduate Programmes of the Centre for Occupational Health, Safety and Environment:
(1) M.Sc. in Occupational Health & Safety (OHS), 
(2) M.Sc. in Environmental Technology & Management (ETM), 
(3) Ph.D. in Occupational Health & Safety (OHS), and 
(4) Ph.D. in Environmental Technology & Management (ETM) 
Our Post-graduate Programmes are entrepreneurial in nature and industry-driven. The Programmes are run in collaboration with the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON), National Industrial Safety Council of Nigeria (NISCN) as well as International Certifying body like National Registry of Environmental Professionals (NREP, USA).  In addition, students at COHSE are positioned to obtain recognized professional certifications such as National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) International General Certificate and Environmental Awareness at Work, Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) Associate Certificate in Environmental Management, IEMA Approved Lead Environmental Auditor and IEMA Approved Environmental Management System (EMS) Implementation, and also benefit from ISPON membership registration. Our goal remains quality practical education and excellence.

AIM
Our aim is to produce graduates of OHS and ETM with broad based training required as experts in industrial safety and environmental management in Petroleum, Power, Chemical, Transport and other sectors.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
For admission into any of the two M.Sc. Programmes, candidates must possess a minimum of Second Class Honours, Upper Division in Science or Engineering from the University of Port Harcourt or any recognized University.  However, Industry/Company workers with minimum of 3 years cognate experience who possesses a Second Class Honours, Lower Division with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.00 or above will be considered. Requirement for Ph.D admission is M.Sc. Degree with minimum CGPA of 4.00 on a 5-point scale in Science or Engineering.

PROGRAMME DURATION
The duration for M.Sc. Full-time option is 12 calendar months and Part-time option is 24 calendar months. The duration for Ph.D Full-time option is a minimum of 24 calendar months while the Part-time option is a minimum of 36 calendar months.

STRUCTURE OF PROGGRAMME
The structure of the Programme is modular in nature. Each module is taught for 40 hours per week, with continuous assessments and examination. For M.Sc., in addition to course work, there are group projects; internships in the industry for practical experience and research work that runs concurrently. 

AWARD OF DEGREES
Successful students depending on the entry qualifications and programme of study shall be awarded M.Sc. or Ph.D Degree in OHS or M.Sc. or Ph.D Degree in ETM.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Application Forms can be obtained from the Centre for Occupational Health, Safety & Environment, University of Port Harcourt or can be downloaded from our website: www.cohseuniport.com. Payment of non-refundable application fee of twenty thousand naira (₦20,000.00) should be made in certified bank draft or any other medium of payment in favour of the Centre for Occupational Health, Safety and Environment, University of Port Harcourt. Completed Application Form along with the evidence of payment must be returned to the Director, Centre for Occupational Health, Safety and Environment, Institute of Petroleum Studies, University of Port Harcourt on or before Friday, 30th September, 2016, either in person, email or by Post. Interview holds in October 2016 for shortlisted candidates.
