The Centre for Petroleum Geosciences (CPG) University of Port Harcourt was established in January, 2011 to offer international collaborative graduate programme in petroleum Geosciences for sustainable development of the petroleum industry. It is a centre for research, teaching and learning in the petroleum Geosciences that will produce quality operations-oriented graduates capable of fitting into their job on graduation.

Objectives
1. Provide highly educated personnel who can utilize their technical knowledge and skills to increase value of petroleum assets and to develop petroleum industry business opportunities;
2. Advance the technological skill base of E&P Group of companies, oil and gas.
Programme Outcomes
3. Upon completion of the PETROLEUM GEOSCIENCES Master of Science programme, graduates will be able to apply advanced geological and geophysical concepts and methods to formulate and solve complex PETROLEUM GEOSCIENCES problems.
4. Upon completion of the PETROLEUM GEOSCIENCES Master of Science programme, graduates will find employment in technologically relevant areas and will advance rapidly in their careers.

When its laboratories come on stream, Centre for Petroleum Geosciences will offer conducive learning environment equipped with state – of – the – industry laboratories, virtual library and industry software to conduct applied research. Centre for Petroleum Geosciences will also engage in collaborative research and extensive services offering innovative solutions to industrial problems.
