14th IPS Induction By Mercy Adeniji

A total of 23 Master of Science degree students graduated in Petroleum Engineering and Project Development as the 14th M.Sc. Batch passed out last December. Also, 20 students were awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in the Petroleum Technology category as the 9th Batch. Both categories were inducted at the 14th Induction/Anniversary ceremony of the Institute held on Wednesday, December 6-7, 2017 at the new auditorium of the Institute inside the IPS Park along the East/West Road.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndowa Lale, who was represented by the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Christie Mato, commended the tripartite initiative between the IPS, the IFP School in Paris, France and TOTAL E&P for continuously delivering a 12-month quality Master's degree programme in the last 14 years. He also praised TOTAL E&P for completing and commissioning the 282-capacity auditorium which is part of the phase II of the IPS Park complex.

“The Institute has come of age as it has continued to commendably expand its activities to areas of research that were not initially envisioned at the inception of the programme in 2003. It is to the credit of the founding fathers and joint partners that the IPS has firmly established itself as the flagship centre of academic and research excellence in Petroleum Engineering education in the country and far beyond”, he said.

The Vice-Chancellor added: “We are very proud to note that the pioneer graduates of the Institute now occupy the commanding heights of the critical hydrocarbon industry in the country and other parts of the world. It is on record that many other institutions that offer similar programmes now rightly look up to the IPS for leadership and as an operational model that has been replicated in diverse forms.”

Highpoint of the event was the conferment of the prestigious Fellowship of the Institute on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lale, Dr. Kingsley Ojoh, Mr. Francis Lecocq, Mr. Paul Odekina and Bello Gusau, who was the Guest Lecturer at the event. Mr. Daniel Ajulibe emerged as the Valedictorian for the 2016/2017 Batch 14 set.
