Barely three weeks after a Memorandum of Understanding was (MoU) signed between the University and Fidelity Bank Plc to build an Advanced Level School, the project is set to take-off with the foundation-stone laying ceremony of the complex, last Thursday.

Speaking at the event, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ajienka, expressed hope that the programme, when fully operational, would improve the quality of education at that level, thereby enhancing the rating of the University. He expressed optimism that the building would be completed at the stipulated time-frame to enable the School commence activities in line with vision of its founders.

Also speaking, Project Consultant, Mr. Osagie Unuigbe, said that the complex which is expected to be constructed in two phases on a three-floor elevation, would be completed within 12 months, explaining that the first phase would comprise administrative and hostel blocks, dining hall, events centre, parking lot and recreational facilities.

In her remark, representative of Fidelity Bank Plc, Vivienne Bucknor, expressed delight that the project has finally commenced, promising that the Bank would continue to partner the University in other areas of need for improved service delivery on a mutually-beneficial basis.

Earlier in his address, Director, College of Continuing Education (CCE), Professor Steve Okodudu, also expressed happiness that the project has become a reality after being on the drawing board for some time. Professor Okodudu restated the resolve of the Management of CCE to achieve the stated goals of the project, stressing that the A-Level School would give a foundational knowledge to beneficiaries as they prepare to transit into the university system.

It would be recalled that the A-Level School Programme was part of the recommendations made by a Committee chaired by the Director of the University Advancement Centre (UAC), Dr Ngozi Odu.

The School is expected to provide foundational knowledge to prospective candidates seeking admission into Nigerian universities, in addition to generating revenue for the University.
