UPDATE OF THE UNIT PROFILES
Sequel on the frequent fire outbreaks in the University of Port Harcourt, the university authority decided to establish a fire service unit to curtail fire outbreak within the environment.
Ever since the unit was established in the year 2001, the unit has been on course to ensure that the environment is secured from fire disaster.
Mandates
Specifically, fire service unit has been working assiduously with regards to upholding its mandates of securing the university environment, saving of lives and properties from fire hazard. Conspicuously, properties damaged by fire outbreak can be easily replaced but life lost cannot be quantified. This situation calls for a quick respond from the fire service to ensure that lives and properties are secured.
These are the mandates the university of Port Harcourt fire service has been working on to ensure that the environment is secured.
Activities
The activities of fire service in the university are as follows:
- To extinguish fire outbreaks
- To train personnel for fire fighting
- To carry out rescue operation
- To save life and property from fire disaster
- To carry out salvage work when necessary
- To render humanitarian services
These activities have their methods of teaching, both practical and theory aspect of its follow-up.
