PREAMBLE

The University of Port Harcourt Press Limited (UPPL) is one of the Non-Academic Resource centres in the University of Port Harcourt. The University of Port Harcourt Press Limited was incorporated as a liability company on 11th February, 1987 under the companies Act (1968) during the tenure of office of Professor S.J.S. Cookey, the 2nd Vice-Chancellor, and Chief. O.O. Nwonodi, the 2nd Registrar.

 

MANDATES

The most prominent of the 37 core mandates of the University of Port Harcourt Press Limited as a company are as follows:

  1. To carry on business as proprietors and publishers of newspapers, journals, magazines, books and other literary works and undertakings.

 

  1. To carry on all or any of the business of printers, stationers, lithographers, type-founders, stereotypers, electro-typers, photography printers, photo-lithographers, chromo-lithographers, engravers, diesinkers, book-binders, designers, draughtsmen, paper and ink manufacturers, book-sellers, publishers and advertising agents, manufacturers packing materials, paper converters, engineers and dealers in all manufacturers of any other articles or things of a character similar or analogous to the foregoing, any of them or connected therein.

 

  1. To purchase or otherwise acquire, and hold, develop, turn to accounts sell, exchange, lease, hire, charge, convert, dispose of and deal with rights of copyrights in scholarly, journalistic, literary, dramatic or pictorial works and scripts, film, motion picture, television and performing rights, contracts, options, licences, claims, concessions, privileges, pre-emption rights and choses in action of all kinds whether in Nigeria or any other country.

 

  1. To improve, manage, cultivate, develop, exchange, let or lease or otherwise, mortgage, charge, sell, dispose of, turn to account, grant rights and privileges in respect of or otherwise deal with all or any part of the property and rights of the company.

The University of Port Harcourt Press Limited has a total of thirty-two (32) core staff apart from the six staff seconded from the University of Port Harcourt which includes one general supervisor, one storekeeper, one receptionist, one marketer, one lithographer, three graphic designer, six printers, eighteen finishers.
