The Centre for Petroleum Geosciences (CPG) University of Port Harcourt was established in January, 2011 to offer international collaborative graduate programme in petroleum Geosciences for sustainable development of the petroleum industry. It is a centre for research, teaching and learning in the petroleum Geosciences that will produce quality operations-oriented graduates capable of fitting into their job on graduation.

 
The programme is to develop human capacity for the oil and gas sector in the gulf of Guinea. The centre has a multidisciplinary pool of consultants and experts in Nigeria and abroad who have many years of experience in oil field operations, research and consultancy. With such a high caliber expertise; we can deliver professional and high quality service to industry through applied research and training.
 
The programme is balanced in the disciplines of Geology and Geophysics (G&G). The courses are offered in modules to suit industry lecturers and visiting experts.

The Centre for Petroleum Geosciences, University of Port Harcourt is to become leading Centre of Excellence in Petroleum Geosciences training, continuing education, and research in the Gulf of Guinea.
 
Mission
The Center for Petroleum Geosciences, University of Port Harcourt is set up to provide high-quality education in geology and geophysics to prepare graduates for successful and responsible professional careers for sustainable development and develop natural content and capacity.
 
Goal
The goal is to produce innovative and highly motivated professionals equipped with sharpened competencies, technical expertise, multidisciplinary skills, professional ethics, cost efficiency, soft skills such as HSE principles in practice, as well as principles of clear communication and team skills for optimum productivity.
