We Comply With Procurement Act, UniPort Mgt Reassures BPP By Obinna Nwodim

Authorities of the University have reassured the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) that they are in full compliance with extant guidelines prescribed by the Procurement Act in the award of contracts and services delivery.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Regina Ogali, who stood in for the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndowa Lale, gave the assurance when she received a delegation from the Bureau of Public Procurement at the Vice-Chancellor's Committee Room on Thursday, May 3, 2018.

Professor Ogali said: “Management believes in doing things right at all times and we know that it is more beneficial to regularly train line officers involved in the procurement processes to equip them to comply with the provisions of the Act. It is as a result of the importance we attach to staff training that Management mounted the training programme.”

Earlier, leader of the team, Mr. Yusuf Olaleye, described the BPP as a regulatory body charged with the responsibility of ensuring that government ministries, departments and agencies complied fully with the Procurement Act, which is in line with government's accountability and anti-corruption drive. He added that the BPP also trains officials of government agencies in the procurement processes to ensure that they are in strict compliance with the law.

The two-day workshop had the theme: “Capacity Building Training on the Understanding of Procurement Processes geared towards Effective Implementation of the Procurement Activities of Our Institution.” It featured presentations such as: Building an Efficient Procurement System; Procurement Methods, Approval Threshold and Requirements for Issuance of Certificate of No Objection; Advertisement Procurements and Principles of Bid Collection, Bid Submission and Bid Opening; Fundamental Principles of Bid Examination/Evaluation; Understanding the Use of Standard Bidding Documents and Standard Requests for Proposals, as well as Complaint Procedure/Administrative Review.
