V-C Commends UPWA-PTA Partnership On Gladys Cookey Daycare Centre By Ethel Timi-Johnson

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndowa Lale, has lavished praises on the University of Port Harcourt Women Association for aggressively driving infrastructural development at the Gladys Cookey Resource Centre under its current leadership.

Professor Lale made the commendation before commissioning a 4-block classroom and one office apartment jointly built and equipped by the Parent-Teacher Association and UPWA on Thursday, September 6, 2018. He described the projects as sustainable legacies that would remain long after the end of tenure of the current leadership of the Association.

“What we are witnessing here today is an excellent product of a mutually beneficial partnership between the University Management, UPWA, parents and other stakeholders and I can assure you that there is no limit to what we can all accomplish towards advancing the public good. I am confident that the recently formed Vice-Chancellors' Wives Association would spur the women to initiate more projects that would complement the efforts of their spouses while in office. I am happy to note that UPWA had done a very commendable job in transforming the parlous state of infrastructure at the International Daycare, Nursery and Primary Schools,” Professor Lale said.

In his remarks, PTA Chairman, Dr. Vincent Weli, restated the group's commitment to the development of the school, including the welfare of pupils and staff. He observed that the parents and other stakeholders were very pleased with the rapid infrastructural and academic development of the school. Dr. Weli promised that the PTA under his watch would continue to make meaningful contributions towards efforts aimed at repositioning the school to offer solid foundational education to pupils from all walks of life.

Earlier in her welcome address, UPWA President and Wife of the Vice-Chancellor, Mrs. Joy Lale, had expressed gratitude to the PTA and other stakeholders for the unalloyed support and encouragement her executive has received since the inception of the current administration. “I want to express my collective gratitude to the University Management, UPWA executive, parents, teachers and our pupils for the support and encouragement that has led to undertaking and completing numerous projects in the school. We are happy that pupil enrolment has increased because of the innovations we introduced to make the school an attractive brand. We will continue to do our best to make this school the best in Rivers State and beyond,” Mrs. Lale promised.
