UniPort Don Wins Global Educational Research Contest By Williams Wodi

Dr. Abdulrahman Megida of the Department of Educational Foundations in the Faculty of Education has won the 2018 World Champion Award in Educational Research. The Kwara State-born lecturer fended off stiff challenge from 5,975 other contestants from 80 countries who were nominated and screened to participate in this year's edition of the global contest.

In recognition of his spectacular intellectual exploit, the International Agency for Standards and Ratings (IASR) has designated Dr. Megida as one of the world's elite 500 most influential experts on earth in the special discipline of Educational Research for 2018.

In a letter to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndowa Lale, Dr. Megida that conveyed his award, lauded the University for providing him an enabling environment to achieve the global recognition through his award-winning article that beat 5,975 nominations from 80 countries. The winning article entitled: “Contemporary Islamic Education in Nigeria from the Rear-View Mirror” adopted historical research methodology to reach its weighty conclusions. It was published in the American Journal of Educational Research. In another development, Dr. Megida has been appointed as the Chairman/President of Nigerian Branch of the Commonwealth Historical Association–Port Harcourt. The latest appointment was conveyed via email communication by the Acting Secretary of the Commonwealth Historical Association in London, Dr. Robert Guyver.

The purpose of the award is to identify brilliant scientists and academicians around the world through global championships in diverse academic disciplines. The IARS sited Dr. Megida's article as having “played a vital role in the advancement of scientific knowledge in Educational Research,” adding that the work was selected based on international meritorious competition.

Reacting to the award, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndowa Lale, described Dr. Megida as a rising scholar with a touch of excellence, adding that to be recognised by such a global body as IASR was irrefutable proof of the recipient's quality research output. “Let me, on behalf of the University heartily congratulate Dr. Megida on this feat that has drawn attention to the University for the quality of research we are doing here. It is my hope that his exploits will motivate other academics to exceed this major contribution to knowledge,” Professor Lale said.
