Chinda, Emasealu Take Over As Registrar, Univ Librarian

It was a historic event on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 as the newly-appointed Principal Officers of the University took over the mantle of leadership. Dr. Gloria Chinda officially assumed office as the substantive 8th Registrar of the University, while Dr. Helen Emasealu took over as the University Librarian.

Speaking at a well-attended handover ceremony which took place at the Registrar's office, Senate Building, University Park, the immediate past Acting Registrar, Mrs. Joyce Tamuno gave glowing tributes to God for the successes she recorded during her brief stay in office.

"I thank the Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill for his unflinching support and guidance throughout my stay in office, I also express my appreciation to my staff for their support throughout the period I held sway", Mrs. Tamuno said. She appealed to the new Registrar to leverage on the vision and mission of the foundation already laid by her predecessors. She stressed the need to extend the frontiers and boundaries to the engine room of the institution to a higher level for increased output and productivity, enjoining the 8th Registrar to always consult in order to be on the right tracks.

Responding, Dr Chinda commended the Federal Government and the Governing Council for her appointment as the Registrar, promising to run an all-inclusive administration in the Registry which would be anchored on fairness, justice and equity. She also thanked God for the opportunity to serve the University as the 8th Registrar, calling for the cooperation of all staff to enable her succeed.

Similarly, the immediate past Acting University Librarian, Dr Emmanuel Owushi has also handed over to the new University Librarian, Dr Helen Emasealu in a brief ceremony witnessed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill and other Prinicipal Officers.

Speaking shortly at the Hand-over ceremony, Dr Owushi expressed appreciation to the Heads of Units as well as the staff of the Library for the support given him throughout his period in office.

He described his period as helmsman of Donald Ekong Library Complex as very fruitful and productive. Dr Owushi lauded the Vice Chancellor for the opportunity to serve in this capacity and solicited that the same support and cooperation he enjoyed while in office be extended to Dr Emasealu.

In her acceptance speech, the visibly elated Dr Emasealu expressed gratitude to God for her appointment, praying God to give her grace to succeed in office.

Speaking separately during the inauguration of the new Principal Officers, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill admonished Drs Chinda and Emasealu to always put the interest of the University at the front burner of their activities. The Vice Chancellor also called on them to run an all-inclusive administration devoid of favouritism. He described their assumption of offices as the beginning of a new era.

Also speaking, Chairperson of the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA), Dr Caroline Nnabuo and Godbless Okede who spoke on behalf of the Registry and Library staff to the new officers of the University and promised to work with them in line with the vision of the present administration which is anchored on "A More Prosperous University".
