NEW PRO-CHANCELLOR PLANS BIG FOR UNIPORT

Chairman of the 17th Governing Council of thc University of Port llarcourt, Sen Mao Ohuabunwa has promised to build on the excellent academic record of the institution to make Uniport one of the best universities in Africa.
He pledged when he led members of the Council on a familiarisation visit to the university recently. He said that the vision of the Council is to make the university a centre of excellence in teaching, research and community development.
He said that under his watch, the Council would raise policies and actions that would place the university on the path of quality and continuous growth, adding that through strategic initiatives, collaborations and renewed commitment, there was no way Uniport would not be renowned for great innovations.
"Our mission will be multi-dimensional, focusing on academic excellence, the advancement of knowledge and community service... We have to look at very innovative ways to address the issues of hostel accommodation while improving already existing facilities " He said.
The Chairman of the Council promised to assist the management of the university in striving for lifelong learning, social inclusion and policy-relevant research that could address contemporary social needs and challenges. Ile said that the Council would also place priority priority must witness visible improvement within the four-year tenure of the Council.
Sen. Ohuabunwa said that while the council would meet with leaders of the trade unions to seek solutions to specific issues, unethical practices would not be condoned by staff and students as they are expected to display the highest standard of professionalism and discipline.
Speaking at the occasion, the Vice-Cheancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Owunari Georgewill pledged the readiness of management to work with the Council and expressed the hope that with the coming of council, hanging issues like staff promotion would be given steady consideration.
Prof Georgewill congratulated the members on their appointment and thanked President Bola Tinubu for sending the best team to the University of Port Harcourt.
