PROFILE OF SEN. MAO ARUKWE OHUABUNWA PRO-CHANCELLOR UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT

Sen. Mao Arukwe Ohuabunwa is Chairman of the 17th Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt. He was born into a modest family in Arochukwu Community Abia State Nigeria.
He got his early education in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. In fact, he got his Higher National Diploma and Bachelors degree, all in Applied Microbiology, from the famous Rivers State College of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt.
He later got a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration and a Masters degree in Human Resources Management from the Enugu State University of Technology. He finally capped it with a PhD in Political Science from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
He did his National Youth Service in the then Gongola State, where he worked as a lecturer at the Federation Polytechnic, Yola. Done with academics, Ohuabunwa worked in different establishments and under different job descriptions.
He worked in the Medical Laboratories of the old General Hospital in Port Harcourt, before joining the Medical Department of the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).
He also worked as a Marketing Executive at DOBBS Nigeria Limited, before becoming the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of St. Masson Lab Limited and Manlab Equipment Nigeria limited. Meanwhile, during his service year, he was made the first Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Anglican Communion Diocese, Yola. The same position he held for the Gongola State Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture.
Having proven himself, he was called to serve his people its the field of politics. tie was consequently elected to represent the people of Arochukwu/Ohatia Federal Constituency under the UNCP in 1998.
He got to the House again under the People's Democratic Party (POP) and became the Majority Leader in the House of Representatives. Having gathered enough capacity, he went for the Senate seat for Abia North and got into the 8th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In the two houses of the National Assembly, he held many important positions, even that of the Leader of the Eastern Caucus. He introduced many hills that have been passed into law.
The list of awards on him can make up a chapter in a good book. His achievements are intimidating and his openness disarming. No wonder, he was a Port Harcourt boy.
