*THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT*.

_Monday 29th November, 2021 to Friday, 3rd December, 2021_

 

 

1. We received accreditation teams from the National Universities Commission for the revalidation of 46 programmes in the University. We are glad to inform the University that it was a successful exercise.

 

2. We also received Major-General Sani Gambo Mohammed, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander – Operation Delta State. They informed us of their willingness to collaborate with the University in providing security to the University Community.

 

3. We carried out an unscheduled inspection to assess the state of the de-roofed hostels at Aminu Kanu Extension Block C, Kwame Nkrumah, Medical hostel, and NUH Block C. We are determined to ensure quick renovation on the affected facilities for the comfort of our students. 

 

 4. Similarly, we inspected the construction of the loading bay at AP-Access gate, Ashgrove road and the installation of solar security lighting and CCTV at the School of Basic Studies Unit.

 

5. The Chairman and Board Members of the National Atomic Energy Commission paid a courtesy call on the University and we had fruitful discussions on areas of collaboration.

 

6. We participated in the hybrid 10th Registry Day Lecture of the University with the theme “The Dawn of a New Era: Sustainability of the Growth of the University through Quality Administrative Services” which held on Tuesday, 30th November, 2021 at the Ebitimi Banigo Hall. We commended the Registry department for sustaining the ideals of the lecture and encouraged them to reinvent their work environment to fit into the digitalized and new normal work dynamics.

 

7. We participated in the inauguration of the Dr. Tammy W. Danagogo Chambers, Faculty of Law, University of Port Harcourt. We reiterated the importance of Students’ Chambers in the Law Faculty and called on the students to make judicious use of the facility as we hope to produce universal jurists.

 

8. The meeting of Petroleum Development Fund (PTDF), Endowment Management Committee held on Thursday, 2nd December, 2021. Operational issues of the Professorial Chair were discussed and appropriate decisions reached.

 

9. We met with the Branch Executive Council members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, Uniport branch. We held fruitful discussions on issues bothering the association and reassured the association of our commitment to ensure industrial harmony and equity.

 

10. We participated in the 78th Scientific and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Surgical Research Society. We celebrated with them and called on their national body to devote time to new ideas, perspectives and approaches that will improve the practice of surgery in our clime and make medical tourism outside the shores of Nigeria a less chosen option in the near future.

 

11. Meeting of Tenders Board held on Friday 3rd December, 2021. We received submissions of tenders followed the Procurement Act in the award of contracts and appropriate decisions were made.
