New Read: THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT (Monday, 31st January – Friday, 4th February, 2022)

 

1) We identified and inspected the University land at Alakahia after a court ruling in favour of the University.

 

2) The Executive members of the University of Port Harcourt Women Association (UPWA) led by Dr. (Mrs.) Udeme Owunari Georgewill paid a courtesy visit to felicitate with the University Management. We assured them of Management's cooperation in sustaining the ideals UPWA. 

 

3) In collaboration with the World Bank Africa Centre of Excellence, the University of Port Harcourt organized a one week Awareness Campaign on Covid -19, Emergence and Medical Response for Staff and Students on Monday 31st January, 2022. The Closing Ceremony was held on Friday 4th February, 2022 and Certificates of participation were signed and handed over to staff and students who participated in the Short Course.

 

4) We met with Choba Police Area Commander, AC Solomon Akika on the peaceful coexistence and continued partnership between the Force and the University. We also discussed the possible review of the barricade at the U-turn in front of the police station, Choba by east/west road. We are pleased to announce that the barricade has been removed.

 

5) We inspected items purchased at the Revenue Bureau Office of the Bursary Department.

 

6) As host of the NUGA Zonal Preliminaries, we welcomed contingents from five Universities at the Man O’ War Centre, Aluu. The opening formalities for the NUGA Zonal Preliminaries was conducted, the prelims have started and we wish all contingents best of luck.

 

7) We participated and declared open the Library Sensitization/Awareness Campaign at the Faculty of Engineering.

 

8) We inaugurated SERVICOM representatives nominated by College/Faculties/Departments/Units/Centers as Quality Assurance and Quality Control officers.

 

9) Indorama Fertilizer company is offering scholarships to our students in the Faculty of Agriculture. Applications will be open to qualified students yearly.

 

10) We inspected the Demonstration Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture for possible expansion and commercialization.

 

11) We paid an unscheduled visit to Stores Unit of the Works & Services Department to ascertain their level of compliance with best practices.

 

12) Similarly, we visited the Admissions Office to see the progress level of Registration of the newly admitted students.

 

13) We distributed Covid-19 preventive materials to Principal Officers, Deans of Faculties and some Directors. We urge all staff and students to stay safe and comply with Covid-19 protocols

 

14) In our quest for the full utilization of CBN Centre of Excellence building, we held a zoom meeting with the Deputy Governor of CBN on the possible release/handover of the facility to the University

 

15) At the event, "An Evening with the Vice- Chancellor" organized by the Chapel of Annunciation, members of the chaplaincy formally welcomed the 9th Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill and the University Management. In our response, we commended them for standing in the gap (praying) for the University and their input in the advancement of the University.

 

16) We signed the reviewed Memorandum of Understanding of affiliation between Adam Igbudu Christian Institute and the University of Port Harcourt.
