By the combined effects of the Directives of the Hon Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu and the decisions of the Senate of the University of Port Harcourt, the University will be shutdown from tomorrow 22nd February 2023 and this affect all staff and students. The University will be closed to all forms of academic activities. All staff and students are expected to go home and be able to participate fully in the general elections of our beloved country Nigeria.

We wish to commend all staff and students for their understanding.

The participation in the national elections as well as the safety of lives are of utmost importance hence this necessary decision of staying away from work and studies.
We also commend our stakeholders for their understanding as the University shutdown for the period of the national elections.

We urge those responsible for the provision of skeletal service and municipal services to please do their best to ensure that these services remain unbroken.

We appeal to the Security unit to also ensure that their activities are heightened to ensure peace and safety on all the campuses of the University throughout the period of shutdown.

Finally, we urge all staff and students to endeavor to participate fully in the general elections by ensuring that they vote peacefully on Saturday 25th February 2023 in the Presidential and National Assembly elections and again on Saturday 11th March 2023 in the Governorship and State Assembly elections.

We commit you all into the hand of God, Who is capable of keeping us all safely during the elections and beyond.
