ICAN Donates Lecture Theatre To Accounting Department

The infrastructural development of the University of Port Harcourt has received another boost with the donation of a 350-seat Lecture Theatre by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria to the Department of Accounting on Friday, July 7, 2017.
Performing the ground-breaking ceremony, President of ICAN, Alhaji Isma'ila Zakari, said that the Lecture Theatre was part of efforts by the Institute to promote Accounting education in the University. He said that the Institute which currently has 41,000 Chartered Accountants and 20,000 Accounting Technicians provides quality services in various public and private organisations.
The President said it was part of ICAN's commitment to serve the public interest by promoting Accounting education in line with global best practice. He said that the UniPort project was the tenth nationwide and third in the South-South zone. “The event marks a major milestone in ICAN's excellent relationship with the University which began in 1988.”
Receiving the delegation at a courtesy visit, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndowa Lale, thanked the Institute for the gesture, assuring ICAN that the Lecture Theatre would boost the quality of Accounting education in the University. He was full of praises for the Institutes' choice of the University for the project, describing ICAN as a reputable professional organisation.
In his remarks, a visibly enthused Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Barisua Nwinee, expressed gratitude to ICAN for the kind gesture. He assured the body that staff and students would give necessary support towards facilitating the speedy completion of the eagerly-awaited project, which is estimated to be completed within 25 weeks.
