HoD Inaugurates ELECO For NAEMS Election By Otikor Samuel

Head of the Department of Educational Management and Planning, Professor Nath Abraham, has inaugurated an eight-member Electoral Committee headed by Bright Chuku to conduct election into the Executive of the University of Port Harcourt Chapter of the National Association of Educational Management Students (NAEMS). The tenure of the former Executive elapsed during the 2015/2017 session, a development that has created a vacuum in the running of the Association.
Inaugurating the Committee in his office at the new Faculty of Education complex, University Park, Professor Abraham charged the ELECO members to conduct a credible election within two weeks after resumption for the 2017/ 2018 academic session.
“At the expiration of the tenure of the last Executive, we had expected prompt conduct of election to fill existing vacancies; unfortunately, that EXCO left without doing the needful. All stakeholders, especially Course Representatives are in agreement on the need to elect a new Executive and the students chose members of the ELECO themselves,” Professor Abraham said. He charged them to conduct a transparent election that would set the Department apart from others.
“I also wish to charge you to discourage high cost of nomination form and campaign for office. When you make electoral processes too tedious and expensive, it may unconsciously lead to corruption, because some of the winners may be tempted to recover their expenses before serving the Association,” the HoD warned the ELECO members. Other members of the ELECO included Ezemonye Amadi (Secretary), Precious Nwikina, Paul Nyeso, Onyekachi Anya, Akpee Tonubari, Kingsley Nworgu and Agnes Eloy.
