V-C Restates Commitment To Quality Education At CELTRAS Training Programme By Obinna Nwodim

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndowa Lale, has reiterated the commitment of the authorities of the University to the provision of quality education to students and other stakeholders.
Professor Lale made the pledge while declaring open a two-day Executive Short Course on Strategic and Survival Issues in Transportation, Logistics and Supply Chain Management organised by the Centre for Logistics and Transport Studies (CELTRAS). The workshop was organised with support from the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA) at the Institute of Petroleum Studies (IPS) Auditorium on Wednesday, May 23, 2018.
Professor Lale who commended the leadership of the CELTRAS for organising the programme, promised that the University would continue to offer quality training in relevant academic and professional programmes that would enhance capacity and boost service delivery to students and other stakeholders.
“With the quality of staff we have on ground, the University is properly positioned to offer high impact instructions and training to our students and other stakeholders that would enhance their capacity to deliver either on graduation or on the job. Our curricula reflect global best practice and we are always searching for ways to improve our services. This workshop is one of such industry-university partnerships for which we are noted among Nigerian universities,” he said.
Director-General of NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, who spoke through the National President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Mr. Ibrahim Jibril, stated that the programme which was facilitated by experienced professionals, was designed to offer practical solutions that are affordable, measurable, sustainable and realizable.
He lauded CELTRAS for packaging the workshop, hoping that the training would improve process flows, speed up operations and remove unnecessary costs and resources. Dr. Dakuku said that the hands-on approach would give participants insight into how to plan, design, execute logistics solution focused around specific business goals.
In her remarks, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Professor Anthonia Okerengwo, described the training programme as timely. She assured students that the SGS has rebranded its programmes to ensure that they graduate within their residency period in the University without unnecessary delays.
Earlier in her address, Acting Director of the Centre, Dr. Gladys Emenike, disclosed that the workshop covered critical issues in a changing global economy. She also identified increased competitive advantage and changing dynamics in the ICT industry, risk exposure, changing lifestyle and increasing interdependency as crucial challenges that participants face in their daily operations. Dr. Emenike added that the training was also necessitated by a need to restructure the requirements for participants to cope more effectively with emerging trends in transport and logistics.
