UniPort Students Sweep Prizes At TOTAL Art Exhibition By Otikor Samuel

Three students of the Department of Fine Arts and Design have carted away three, out of four prizes on offer at the maiden edition of an Art Exhibition Competition sponsored by TOTAL E&P Nigeria Limited. The event took place at the TOTAL Village, Rumuogba, Port Harcourt, between June 7 and 9, 2018. The maiden competition opened for entries in Painting, Sculpture, Graphics and Textile.

Briefing UniPort News in her report on the competition, Head of the Department of Fine Arts and Design, Professor Florence Nduka, disclosed that Miss Faith Abandy, Barinaa Ogbe and Godfrey Uche, won the coveted prizes in Painting, Sculpture and Graphics, respectively. She added that a student of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni picked the prize in Textile.

Professor Nduka described the superlative performance of the Department at the event as further proof of the quality hands-on training and exposure given to students. She expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndowa Lale for personally gracing the event in company of his Wife, Joy, including Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor Femi Shaka, Associate Dean, Professor Kingsley Owete and the Director of Quality Assurance and Quality Control Unit, Professor Ikechukwu Agbagwa.

The Executive Director of Port Harcourt District of TOTAL E&P Nigeria Limited, Victor Bandele in a letter to the Vice-Chancellor dated April 25, 2018, had disclosed that the Art Exhibition was aimed at promoting young talents in tertiary institutions in Rivers State to excel in the discipline.

A total of 26 students of the University were initially shortlisted from the entries to participate in the competition, out of which the three prize winners emerged successful.
