V-C Commissions Humanities Faculty Library By Ethel Timi-Johnson with Christiana Osarollo (Intern)

 

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndowa Lale, has commended the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities for initiating and completing a state-of-the-art library to facilitate teaching and research in the Faculty.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony of the project at the Elechi Amadi Faculty of Humanities building which held on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, Professor Lale described the Faculty of Humanities as one of the finest and best organised in the University. He expressed happiness that the leadership of the Faculty initiated the library project, as well as stocked it with books and journals to facilitate research and encourage reading culture amongst students of the Faculty.

“it is a well-known fact that the Faculty of Humanities houses some of the best brains and finest academics in this University.  I am impressed with the quality of facilities on ground and the volume of books in stock in the new library. What we have seen here is much more than I expected, and this achievement is a result of team work and cooperation amongst staff of this faculty,” the Vice-Chancellor remarked. He commended the Dean, Professor Femi Shaka and the leadership of the Faculty for successfully completing the project.

In his address, Professor Shaka noted that the project was in fulfilment of his electioneering promise in May 2016.  He lauded the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for approving the acquisition of more books for the library.  “I wish to officially thank the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndowa Lale for supporting this critical project in the Faculty. I also wish to commend students of the Faculty of Humanities for keying into this important project,” Professor Shaka said.

In their separate speeches, Emeritus Professor Ebiegberi Alagoa, University Librarian, Dr. Susan Umeozor, Professor Iniobong Udoidem, Acting Head of Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies, Dr. Baridisi Isaac and UniPort Branch Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Dr. Austen Sado, expressed delight at the commissioning of the Faculty library. Emeritus Professor Alagoa promised to donate more books to boost the library holdings through his firm, the Onyoma Publishing Company.
