V-C Commissions New GES Unit Extension At Choba Park

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndowa Lale, has commissioned a new extension block completed by the leadership of the School of General Studies to facilitate its functions at Choba Park. The new block annex has an office, store and toilet facilities at the back of the existing building.
Commissioning the new facility on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, the Vice-Chancellor showered praises on the ingenuity of the Acting Director, Dr. Jonah Nwogu, in prudently utilising available funds to construct an office extension in a manner that added beauty to the existing structure, rather than deface the area.
“I want to commend the Acting Director of the School for this achievement in just less than a year of his appointment. Some persons had expressed misgivings about his appointment, but I am happy that he has proved himself as a diligent and prudent administrator,” the Vice-Chancellor said. He praised Dr. Nwogu’s predecessors for leaving enduring legacies in the School, advising the staff to sustain the growth of the GES Unit, which he described as critical in the academic curriculum.
In his address, the Acting Director of the School, Dr. Nwogu, disclosed that the dire constraint of office space informed the need to expand the building, commending the Vice-Chancellor for his commitment to enhanced service delivery and staff welfare.
“To all of us at the School of General Studies, the actualisation of the project is like a dream when we remember how it was conceived. Your visit to this Unit today is a dream come true that the School of General Studies, one of the oldest in this University, will soon leave Egypt to Canaan where a befitting GES Unit Building will be erected to enable us discharge our statutory responsibilities to students,” the Acting Director told the Vice-Chancellor.
Dr. Nwogu disclosed that on assumption of office on July 25, 2016, he identified accommodation and proper record keeping as key challenges that needed urgent redress. He disclosed that his administration has taken steps to address the two perennial problems with the addition of the building and installation of a computerised result system to tackle the numerous complaints by students.
He expressed gratitude to his Assistants, Dr. Desmond Nbete and Mr. Orukotan Kwamina, the GES Coordinators and staff of the Unit for their support for his leadership. Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Barisua Nwinee and former Director of the School, Professor Ebi Amakoromo, presented goodwill messages at the commissioning ceremony, which also featured the inspection of the computerised results facility by the Vice-Chancellor and his entourage.
