Dr. Ijeoma Vincent-Akpu holds BSc Biology from University of Lagos (1996); M.Sc (2002) andPH.D (2007) from University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She completed her doctorate degree as FGN scholar in 2007, and the Commonwealth Academic Fellowship for Post-doctoral research at the University of Stirling-UK in 2011/2012. She also got the Netherlands Fellowship Programme for international course organized by Wageningen URCentre for Development Innovation on Climate Change Adaptation in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management in 2013. Dr Vincent Akpu is a member of several professional bodies and currently a co-chair of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries section of International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) and treasurer of Fisheries Society of Nigeria, Rivers State branch. She has been involved in several EIA studies and training of local communities (Ogoni, Oloibiri, Ikwerre, Joinkarama etc) in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. She has co-authored several books, chapters in books and a number of scholarly papers in peer reviewed international journals. She has also made presentations at international conferences in Ghana, Portugal, Mexico and Geneva, and other conferences in Nigeria.

Heavy metal and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon contaminations in an oil spilled brackish water system and the health risks on the peopleof Bodo, Niger Delta, Nigeria Bodo brackish water creek located in the lower Niger Delta basin which is prone to incessant crude oil spills, is a major source of drinking and bathing water, especially for fishermen in Ogoni community (Ogoniland) who are in close contact with the water due to their lifestyles.
