Prof. Charles Uwadiae Oyegun

 

AIFESEHI ENOSAKHARE PEDRO  

Professor Charles Uwadiae Oyegun graduated from the University of Ibadan with a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Geography in 1975. He also obtained the MSc and Ph.D degrees in the same subject, department and university in 1984 and 1988 respectively. Prof. Oyegun holds a 1983 Post graduate diploma in education (PGDE) from the University of Benin, Benin City and a 2001 Post Graduate Diploma (Theology) from the Redeemed Bible College, Nigeria. He was Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt (2010-2012); Director, Centre for Disaster Risk Management and Development Studies (CDRMDS), University of Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt (2010); Dean, Students’ Affairs, University of Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt (2000-2004); Ag. Head, Department of Geography and Environmental Management, University of Port Harcourt, Port Hart Harcourt (1994-1997); Board Member, Edo State Environmental Protection Agency (1992-1994) and Investigation Officer Grade 1, Public Complaints Commission, Benin City (1980). Professor Oyegun is a Fellow of many professional bodies including the Nigerian Geographer’s Association.

Reseach: 

Earth surface dynamics which modify the form, processes and materials  of urban and coastal landscapes in land and water management exacerbated by manmade hazards and a rising sea level induced by climate change. Areas of interest include:

  • Shore zone management in Nigeria
  • Petroleum Development and the Niger Delta Environment
  • Climate Change and Nigeria’s Coastal Resources
  • Determinants of coastal Erosion and Accretion
  • Land Degradation and the Coastal Belt of Nigeria
     

Current Research Interest:

  • Environmental Hazards, Resource Allocation and Peasant Activities
  • Land Tenure and Oil Company-Host Community Relations
  • Resource Mobilization and Development in the Niger Delta
  • Urbanization and River Channel Processes

 

On-going Research:

  • Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment of the Land and People of the Niger Delta to natural and man-made Environmental Hazards.
