Professor Anthony Ogbonnaya Ibe

Professor Anthony Ogbonnaya Ibe is the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the University.Professor Ibe joined the University of Port Harcourt in October, 1985 as a Lecturer I in the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering.  Through hardwork he rose to become the first Professor of Electrical Engineering of this University in 2009.  He was Head of Electrical/Electronic Engineering for fourteen years (1990-2012 and 2004 – 2006).  He later served as Director, ICTC for three and half years.  Professor Ibe was elected into the Governing Council of the University in June, 2013.  And in April, 2015 he became the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration).

 

Prof. Ibe holds a B.Eng, 1st Class honours (1979) from University of Nigeria, Nsukka and a PhD, DIC (1984) from Imperial College of Science and Technology, London.

 

Prof. Ibe is a member of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and a Senior Member, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).  He is also a COREN registered Engineer.

 

He has published over 40 articles and four books in Electrical Engineering.  He has supervised over 50 masters’ degree students and PhD students.  Prof. Ibe is an external examiner and assessor to a couple of Universities (some of them outside Nigeria).

 

Prof. Ibe is happily married to Mrs. Chika U. Ibe, who is a 1984 pharmacy graduate of University of Nigeria, Nsukka.  The marriage is blessed with fourchildren.
