SPDC Staff Exposes CPG Students To Career Opportunities

Newly-admitted students into the Master’s degree programme of the Centre for Petroleum Geosciences (CPG) were treated to an exciting career talk on abundant career opportunities in petroleum geosciences.
Associate Production Seismologist at the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, Mrs. Eudorah Ochai-Audu, who was Guest Speaker at the one-day event which held at the Seminar Room of the Centre, charged the students to work very hard and remain focused to excel in the field.
“My advice to you is to know why you are here and be entirely focused on the goal. I graduated from this University about twelve years ago and the knowledge I gathered here has assisted me to distinguish myself in the field. You have to ensure that the purpose for which you came to study is not defeated. That means that you need to be dedicated to your study to improve yourselves and add value to the industry,” she told her younger colleagues.
In his remarks, new Director of the Centre, Professor Godwin Udom, who was represented by his Assistant, Dr. Jones Accra, said the Centre was famous for exposing its students to both theoretical and practical knowledge so that on graduation, they would not need to undergo much training to properly fit into a complex industry that depended on cutting-edge technology and knowledge workers.
“The training you acquire here covers what you will also do as future players in the industry. What the individual companies would do is to train you in line with their internal operational structures and no longer on the conceptual and practical aspects of the job. So, from time to time, knowledgeable industry players will be coming to update you on current trends in the business. We will also be embarking on numerous field trips to tie classroom theory to practical experience,” representative of the Director told the students.
He showered praises on the Guest Speaker for honouring the invitation of the Centre even at short notice, commending multinational oil servicing giant, Halliburton for providing software for the Centre. He called on other firms to follow the Halliburton example.
