The African Journal of Agriculture, Technology and Environment (AJATE) is an open access online journal that publishes peer-reviewed, original, cutting-edge research articles on diverse aspects of agriculture and biotechnology, and related aspects of food processing, packaging, handling, agricultural engineering and environmental protection. This Journal is a not-for-profit organisation, funded at the moment by The Faculty of Agriculture, UNIPORT. The African Journal of Agriculture, Technology and Environment publish articles bi-annually. Limited number of hard copies of each issue will be printed for distribution to libraries etc. The African Journal of Agriculture, Technology and Environment (AJATE) will be widely indexed.



Submitting an article to AJATE implies that the article has not been published elsewhere as a scholarly article and that it is not undergoing review or being processed for publication in another journal. Articles should be uploaded online on AJATE’s website, or submitted via email using the following addresses: This email address is being protected from spambots. Only well researched and written articles will be forwarded to the external reviewers after in-house review. Articles will be reviewed over two weeks by two reviewers and an editor. The Journal will charge a handling and processing fee of N15, 000 or $100 (for foreign authors). The handling and processing fee will be paid into the Journal’s account only after the manuscript has been accepted for publication. Authors can track the status of their submission online by entering their access user name and password. The copyright holder will be the Journal.


Guidelines for formatting manuscripts

Software: Microsoft Word, Font: Times New Roman. Apart from the paper title and author address lines, other lines should be in font size 12. The paper should be justified and each line numbered. Full paper should not exceed 18 A4-sized pages, double spaced. Set all margins to 25 mm. Do not use foot notes. Use capitals for all major subheadings, i.e., title, abstract, introduction, etc. Tables and figures should appear in text and appropriately captioned. For tables, captions should come above the table, left justified. For figures, captions should come below the figure, left justified. Photographs: colour photographs are acceptable where necessary.


TITLE: Title of paper should be on the first page of your submission. The title of the paper should be font 14, bold. Author(s): author(s) name should be listed right below the title on a line by itself, font size 12 regular. Address(es) of authors should come right below name of authors, on a line by itself, using font size 11. Where authors address exceeds one, use a, b, c superscripts to link authors to addresses. Use * to indicate corresponding author. Include email address of corresponding author.


ABSTRACT: abstract should not exceed 250 words. Abstract must come right below email address of corresponding author. The next line after the abstract should carry the keywords. Use the word ‘Keywords’. There should be three to six keywords.

INTRODUCTION: introduction should come right after keywords.

MATERIALS AND METHOD: should come right after introduction

RESULTS: should come right after materials and method.

DISCUSSION: should come right after results.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: single paragraph (if any).

REFERENCES: references should come at the end of the paper and it should be single spaced. Use the standard Harvard References Style. Examples:

In-text ref. 

• (Ile, 2012) or (Garrett and Redd, 2011), or (Garrett, Jane and Anyanwu, 2011). If more than four authors (Garrett, et al., 2011)
