REPORT/APPRECIATION FOR SUPPORTING UNIPORT STAFF AND STUDENTS ON EU ERASMUS + MOBILITY PROGRAMME TO BABES-BALYAIN UNIVERSITY, ROMANIA
This is the report as well as the appreciation of your endless support for the capacity building of staff and students at University of Port Harcourt through the European Union Erasmus + Mobility Programme.
Given the slim funding by the European Union under this programme, Erasmus Scholars from our university cannot utilise the opportunity without the support of Management. For example, the EU funding does not cover the costs of local travel to and from Abuja for visa applications. The programme, which is under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Babes-Bolyai University (UBB), only takes care of air tickets for international travel, accommodation and feeding while in UBB. In addition, delays in visa issuance sometimes affect other funding components.
Our staff recently completed a visit (the second) for the 2025/26 academic session. They left Nigeria on the 29th of November and returned on the 8th of December 2025. They were well received by the Office of International Cooperation at the university. While there, they participated in teaching and training at the Faculty of Administrative, Political, and Communication Sciences.
This collaboration, which aims to build staff capacity and foster cross-cultural learning with Romanian students and faculty, benefits both universities in several ways, including networking opportunities.
Staff from Babes-Bolyai University will visit our university early in the next year. Our students who have been selected to participate in the exchange are preparing for their visa interviews early the next year and eventual travel to Romania in the last week of February.
At the exit meeting, Prof. Allen thanked UBB on behalf of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, highlighting the invaluable benefits that academic and professional exchanges brought to both countries.
