The Institute of Petroleum Studies (IPS) now Institute of Petroleum and Energy Studies (IPES), was established in 2003, as a bold effort to bridge the skills gap between theory of the classroom and the practical and changing needs of the oil and gas industry.
The M.Sc. Petroleum Project Development and Energy Transition programme is an International Collaborative Graduate programme between the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and IFP School, France and delivered by the IPES, which is funded by the NNPC Limited/TotalEnergies E&P Nigeria Limited Joint Venture.
The aim of the programme is to provide the students with broad-based training required for onshore and offshore oil and gas field development. On completion of the Masters’ Programme, the graduates will among other skills, be able to:
The fulltime entry option is designed specifically for young graduates, but working professionals who are interested in the master’s programme can apply for the part-time option. Please note that there are limited spots in the part time programme.
This MSc programme wiil prepare you for the next steps in your career and you will learn from experts and industry leaders.
The Institute’s faculty is made up of lecturers and resource persons from the University of Port Harcourt (Uniport) and other universities in Nigeria, IFP School, France, and experts from the Energy industry in Nigeria and the diaspora. Leaming is supported by modern-day, state-of-the-art, and industry software. Students will participate in field and laboratory visits and reviews of field-case studies.
The Institute offers a conducive learning environment, equipped with internet access, physical and virtual library, with access provided to student to relevant information technology tools.
IPES graduates, in the fulltime MSc programme, have the opportunity to undertake a 1-year internship programme with TotalEnergies. The Institute has produced graduates who have consistently attained a 91% employability rate in the oil and gas industry on graduation.
The programme is an intensive full-time study programme that runs for twelve (12) calendar months, non-stop. The programme cannot be truncated, and it is residential. However, for the part-time programme, the duration is three years. Fees are non-refundable.
Successful students shall be awarded a joint Masters’ degree from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria and IFP School, France.

A non-refundable application fee of Fifty Thousand Naira (WS0,000) only will be required to be paid online to start the application process.
Only names of short-listed candidates will be published on the IPES website ipes.uniport.edu.ng. Candidates interested in the part-time programme should indicate that in their application letter.
The programme is tuition-paying, though heavily subsidized by the sponsors, and successfully admitted students shall be responsible for their tuition or seek for sponsorship.

The admission committee will screen each applicant’s submission. Candidates who are successful in the pre-screening exercise by the Institute will be invited for the aptitude test.
