University of Port Harcourt Celebrates the Georgewill Administration with Public Lecture, Book Launch and Legacy Tour
The University of Port Harcourt continued the week-long Close-Out Activities in honour of its 9th Vice-Chancellor, Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill, with a memorable Public Lecture and Book Launch, followed by a Legacy Tour, celebrating the achievements and enduring impact of his five-year administration.
Held on Wednesday, 8th July, 2026, at the CBN Centre of Excellence, the Public Lecture and Book Launch attracted members of the Governing Council, Management, Senate, staff, students, alumni, and distinguished guests who gathered to celebrate a tenure marked by visionary leadership, academic excellence, innovation, and institutional transformation.
The Public Lecture featured inspiring presentations by Dr. (Mrs.) Seinye O. B. Lulu-Briggs and Dr. Richard Nyong, OON, whose thought-provoking lectures highlighted the importance of purposeful leadership, service, innovation, and sustainable development. Their presentations were well received and provided valuable insights for the University community.
A major highlight of the event was the launch of commemorative books documenting the achievements, milestones, and transformational initiatives of the Georgewill administration. The publication captures the administration’s contributions to academic development, research, infrastructure, innovation, staff and student welfare, and institutional growth.
The celebration continued on Thursday, 9th July, 2026, with the Legacy Tour, during which members of the University community visited several landmark projects executed during Professor Georgewill’s tenure. The tour featured visits to the University Bottling Plant, Solar Farm, Legacy Building, Cancer Centre, Philosophy Building, and the Professional Office/Auditorium, among other signature projects.
The Legacy Tour offered participants a first-hand appreciation of the administration’s commitment to sustainable development, innovation, and infrastructure renewal. The atmosphere was filled with joy, music, dancing, and thanksgiving as staff, students, and guests celebrated the enduring legacy of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor.
