ADMISSION FOR 2026/2027 SESSION

Introduction: The Offshore Technology Institute, University of Port Harcourt (OTI-UNIPORT) is a Postgraduate energy Institute offering educational support and direction to the Oil and Gas Industry through the development and delivery of leadership, management and technical education specifically relevant to the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry. It partners TechnipFMC, Aveon Offshore and reputable oil and gas companies to carry out Teaching, Research and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) directed at the sustainability of the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry. Its aim is to provide skilled and competent manpower resource relevant to the needs of the energy industry in Nigeria & abroad.

Graduate Programmes of the Institute

The Institute has PGD programme in Offshore Engineering, and MSc / Ph.D programmes in Offshore Engineering, Subsea Engineering and Pipeline Engineering. The environment in the Institute is conducive for learning, students have access to audio visual aids, e-learning and internet facilities. The Institute enjoys uninterrupted power supply via solar energy system. Students undergo: 6-months internship and 3.5-months internship for the PGD and MSc programmes respectively in relevant companies. The MSc students undergo underwater training such as TBOSIET/HUET and field trips. Students are encouraged to live and work together thereby enhancing the development of team spirit. The Teaching Faculty consists of Lecturers from the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), other Universities within and outside Nigeria, Lecturers from Professional Institutions abroad, as well as experts from the Industry. The PGD programme which targets graduates of physical sciences provides avenue for such graduates to cross over to the engineering field and continue with any of the MSc programmes.

At the end of the end of any of the MSc programmes, the graduate will among other skills, be able to:

1. work methodologically and logically to solve real-life problems in the face of conflicting requirements.
2. evaluate , explore and manage offshore oil & gas fields
3. design, construct and install multiphase flow pipelines, risers, umbilicals and jumpers
4. operate and supervise onshore and offshore oil and gas production facilities
5. use ORCAFLEX / PIPEPHASE / ANSYS software

Duration:  12 calendar months of Intensive Full Time study or 24 months of flexible Part-Time study for the PGD and MSC programmes. The duration of the PhD programmes is 24 calendar months of Full Time Study or 48 calendar months of Part Time Study.

Award of Degree: Upon completion of the programmes, successful students shall receive:

1. Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Offshore Engineering- for PGD students
2. Master’s Degree (MSc) in the respective area of study – for MSc students 
3. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in the respective area of study – for PhD students

All awarded by the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Professional Certification: Students will be presented for Offshore Petroleum Training Organization (OPITO) Certification.

Admission Requirements:

1. PGD – Candidates must possess  a Bachelor’s Degree with minimum of Third Class in any branch of engineering or Second Cass Lower from any of the Physical Science Disciplines
2. MSc- Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree with minimum of Second Class Honours in any branch of Engineering
3. PhD – Candidates must have Master’s degree in the related field with a CGPA of not less than 3.50 points on a scale of 5.0 or Master’s degree in any branch of Engineering with not less than 5 years working experience in the related field of study.
