Belt and Road Initiative and the Niger Delta: UniPort Hosts Scholars from Zhejiang Normal University, China

The University of Port Harcourt recently hosted a delegation of scholars from Zhejiang Normal University, China, for a robust academic dialogue aimed at deepening collaboration between both institutions. The focus of the discussion was to promote mutual understanding and strengthen cooperation between China and Nigeria, particularly as it relates to the development of the Niger Delta region.

In a goodwill message delivered on her behalf, the Chinese Consul General in Lagos encouraged participants to seize this opportunity to foster partnerships—not only between China and Nigeria—but also among countries of the Global South. She emphasized the importance of building an open, inclusive world economy that delivers mutual benefits to both the Chinese and Nigerian peoples.

A highlight of the event was a nostalgic reflection by Professor Liu Hongwu, who shared memories of his academic journey under the mentorship of Emeritus Professor E.J. Alagoa at the University of Port Harcourt.

The University commended Professor Kalu Wosu, Director of the Confucius Institute at UniPort, and his team for their tireless efforts and commitment to strengthening ties between the two institutions and promoting cross-cultural academic cooperation.
