Joe and Heather Diiorio Visit University of Port Harcourt to Support Youth Empowerment Initiatives

The University of Port Harcourt recently had the honour of receiving Joe and Heather Diiorio, distinguished philanthropists from the United States renowned for their unwavering commitment to supporting the less privileged. Accompanied by our esteemed alumnus Mr. Emmanuel Osigwe, the Diiorios visited the University as part of their mission to uplift and empower young people through strategic partnerships.

Their visit was centred on offering support to the Youth Friendly Centre of the University, currently under the dynamic leadership of Ms. Maryjane Efemini. The Centre plays a vital role in the holistic development of our students, providing avenues for positive engagement beyond the classroom—thereby equipping them with life skills and preventing exposure to negative influences.

The University administration warmly commended Joe and Heather for their interest and active involvement in youth-focused initiatives. With one of the largest youth populations in the region, the University of Port Harcourt recognizes the critical role of the Youth Friendly Centre in nurturing well-rounded, purpose-driven graduates.

This visit not only marks a step forward in global-local collaboration but also reinforces the University’s commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and enabling environment for its students.
