UniPort Senate Elects New Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Strengthens Leadership for the Future

In a landmark move to reinforce strategic leadership and academic excellence, the Senate of the University of Port Harcourt has elected three distinguished scholars as Deputy Vice-Chancellors. The elections, held at the 488th Extraordinary Meeting of Senate earlier today, signal a renewed commitment to visionary governance at the University.

With the tenure of their predecessors concluded, the Senate—guided by the principles of merit, due process, and institutional continuity—voted to fill the critical leadership roles.

Professor Chukwudi Onyeasor was elected Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration). Renowned for his administrative acumen and steadfast service, he is expected to strengthen operational efficiency and enhance institutional coordination.

Professor Rosemary Ogu emerged as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). A respected authority in academia with a stellar record in teaching, research, and policy leadership, her appointment heralds a deepened focus on academic innovation, quality assurance, and curriculum advancement.

As Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development), Professor Angela Frank-Briggs brings to the role a wealth of experience and scholarly distinction. Her leadership is poised to invigorate the University’s research agenda, promote impactful scholarship, and expand collaborative partnerships.

Congratulating the newly elected officers, Vice-Chancellor Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill described them as “accomplished professionals whose leadership will meaningfully shape the next phase of UniPort’s growth.”
