Sets Stage for a World-Class Academic Celebration Scheduled for May 2026

The University of Port Harcourt has commenced preparations for its forthcoming 36th Convocation Ceremony with the inauguration of a Central Planning Committee tasked with delivering a world-class academic event.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill, while inaugurating the committee, charged members to approach their responsibilities with dedication, precision, and a strong commitment to excellence. He emphasized the importance of meeting timelines and executing assigned duties effectively to ensure a seamless and memorable convocation.

The Convocation Committee is chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Rosemary Ogu, who assured of the committee’s readiness to deliver on its mandate. She called on all members to work collaboratively and uphold the high standards associated with the University of Port Harcourt.

To ensure efficient planning and execution, a total of 25 subcommittees have been constituted, each responsible for specific aspects of the convocation programme. Professor Ogu further urged the subcommittees to develop activity-based budgets that will enhance value delivery and contribute to the overall success of the event.

The inauguration meeting, held at the University Council Chambers, also featured goodwill messages from principal officers of the University. They encouraged committee members to remain focused, diligent, and committed to excellence, stressing the need to uphold the institution’s reputation as a centre of academic distinction.

The 36th Convocation Ceremony is scheduled to hold from 18th to 23rd May 2026, and is expected to bring together graduating students, alumni, stakeholders, and distinguished guests from across the globe.
