UPWA International Schools Celebrate International Day with Cultural Excellence
The University of Port Harcourt Women Association (UPWA) International Group of Schools has once again demonstrated its commitment to raising global-minded future leaders through the celebration of International Day, held on June 27, 2025.

Located within the heart of the University of Port Harcourt, the UPWA International Group of Schools is a unique initiative and a vital expression of the University Women Association’s corporate social responsibility. The school provides a well-rounded education that fosters innovation, creativity, and leadership—one child at a time.

One of the school’s most anticipated annual events is International Day, introduced during the tenure of Professor Udeme Owunari Georgewill, the current President of UPWA. Now in its fourth year, the celebration exposes students to the rich diversity of world cultures. Each academic session, students in the secondary section are assigned countries from six continents (excluding Antarctica), which they study and represent in various creative ways.

This year, students once again dazzled staff, parents, and visitors with outstanding displays of cultural expression. From national anthems to traditional attire, cuisine, dance, and language presentations, each group brought their assigned country to life with passion and excellence.

A highlight of the event is the competitive aspect, which encourages students to give their best. This year, the Kenyan troupe emerged as the overall winner, with Argentina and South Korea taking second and third place respectively. The top three groups were rewarded with cash prizes, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and encouraging even greater creativity in future editions.

UPWA International Day continues to grow in impact, nurturing cultural appreciation, collaboration, and leadership among students, while bringing the UPWA community together in celebration of global unity and diversity.
