In a glowing testament to the power of commitment and visionary leadership, the University of Port Harcourt proudly announces the successful fulfillment of a pledge made by the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), His Excellency Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, during a courtesy visit by the University’s Governing Council earlier this year.
Led by the Chairman of Council, Distinguished Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, the delegation had visited the Honourable Minister in Abuja to extend heartfelt congratulations on his appointment as Minister of the FCT and to commend him for his sterling performance and dedication to national development. During that memorable meeting, the Honourable Minister generously pledged to completely overhaul and equip the new Convocation Arena of the University of Port Harcourt with state-of-the-art media infrastructure, suitable for an institution of international repute.
Today, with great joy and immense pride, the University community celebrates the fulfillment of that promise. The Convocation Arena—an architectural masterpiece and a centerpiece for ceremonial gatherings—has now been equipped with modern, high-definition media systems, including advanced sound, lighting, broadcasting, and recording technology, all professionally installed to meet international standards.
This upgrade marks a new era in the University’s event hosting capability, ensuring that future convocations, lectures, performances, and high-profile functions will be transmitted with technical excellence and global appeal.
The Management of the University, on behalf of the entire academic community, expresses its deepest gratitude to His Excellency Barr. Nyesom Wike and his beloved family for their generosity, integrity, and unwavering support for educational advancement. This gesture stands as a powerful symbol of their enduring commitment to the growth and prestige of the University of Port Harcourt.
“This is not just an upgrade—it is a legacy. His Excellency has not only honored his word but has also elevated the face of our academic celebrations. The University is grateful,” remarked a senior University official.
As the lights shine brighter and the sound travels farther within the Convocation Arena, the University of Port Harcourt stands tall—thankful, transformed, and poised for even greater things to come.
