Brief Biography

Prof. Nwankwo holds BSc (Hons) Physics from University of Ibadan, PGD in Computer Science from University of Lagos, MSc and PhD in Applied Geophysics from University of Port Harcourt. I had 18 years work experience in oil and gas sector, where I rose to the position of a Manager, before joining the Department of Physics, University of Port Harcourt.

I am a Professor of Applied Geophysics at the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, with extensive experience in exploration geophysics, seismic interpretation, reservoir characterization, wireline logging, and near-surface geophysical investigations. My research focuses on advancing geophysical methods for hydrocarbon exploration, environmental investigations, groundwater assessment, and subsurface characterization.

My academic interests include seismic reflection and refraction methods, seismic data acquisition and processing, seismic inversion, rock physics, gravity and magnetic methods, electrical resistivity techniques, and integrated geophysical interpretation. I am committed to developing innovative approaches that improve subsurface imaging and support sustainable resource exploration.

Over the course of my academic career, I have supervised undergraduate and postgraduate research, published scholarly articles in reputable journals, and presented research at national and international conferences. I actively collaborate with researchers and industry professionals to bridge the gap between academic research and practical geophysical applications.

Research Interests • Exploration Geophysics • Seismic Reflection & Refraction • Seismic Data Processing and Interpretation • Reservoir Characterization • Wireline Logging • Geophysical Inversion • Environmental & Engineering Geophysics • Groundwater Exploration • Gravity and Magnetic Methods • Applied Geophysics Education.

I welcome opportunities for research collaboration, postgraduate supervision, consultancy, and multidisciplinary projects in geoscience and energy

I am a member of many Academic and Social Organizations. I am happily married and the marriage is blessed with 4 children.
