Brief Biography

Dr. Esinkuma James Amaegbe also known as Dr.PJ is a committed Senior lecturer at the Department of music, faculty of Humanities, University of Port Harcourt with interest in music pedagogy, popular music, technology-based music courses, performance practice, sound reinforcement, ritual in Africa traditional music of ethnic groups, with over 15 years of teaching experience at one of the leading Nigerian academic institutions. Teaching music students from various social and cultural backgrounds. An accomplished producer, bass guitarist as well as a consummate music director, possessing excellent administrative, verbal communication and written skills along with constructive and effective teaching methods that promote a stimulating learning environment. He is maried to Famokuma Amaegbe and Blessed with three lovely Girls, Ebiaye, Wanaemi and Ayiba-Bomo. Administratively, he is: 

  • Involved in the administration of degree and postgraduate courses as well as responsible for organizing lectures and supervising seminars.
  • Delivering lectures to groups of students and using advanced teaching techniques to inspire and motivate them for higher level qualifications and  employment.
  • Organized, implemented and monitored programmes and assessments. Was responsible for preparing learning material for courses and devising relevant practical activities for staff as well as students.
  • Involved in course team activities and curriculum development for students. Participated in the interviewing of potential students who enroll on a music course and asking them questions.
  • Responsible for carrying out teaching and research duties and also involved in the research & design of new courses. 
  • Assessing student’s course work and material, setting up of exams and the marking of results.
  • Providing mentoring and support to students who wants to further their career in music.
