Brief Biography

Prof. T. N. Gbarakoro holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Biology (Zoology) and a Master of Philosophy in Applied Entomology from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, Rivers State in 1985 and 1995 respectively, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Entomology from the University of Port Harcourt in 2011. He has worked as an Agricultural Entomologist with the Niger Delta Basin Rural Development Authority (NDBRDA) from 2001 to 2004. His postgraduate research was on the richness, diversity and abundance of soil micro arthropods in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria; their response to environmental pollution from oil, pesticides and steel industry wastes. His research interests include the following: Evaluation of insecticides in the management of agricultural stored produce, impact of herbicides on soil micro arthropods, bioindicator species of soil micro arthropods to environmental pollution, aquatic insects as biological indicators of water quality and impacts of effluents and hydrocarbon pollution on the richness and diversity of aquatic insect species, edible insects etc., in relationship to the physico-chemical parameters of their environment. He was the Acting Head of Department between 2020- 2022, Faculty of Science Representative on Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC), University of Port Harcourt 2023, Research Associate (Aquatic Entomology); Centre for Marine Pollution monitoring and seafood safety, University of Port Harcourt 2013 – Present and National Vice President, Entomological Society of Nigeria 2021-2025.
