On this sacred occasion of Good Friday, we extend heartfelt reflections and warm regards to the Christian community of the University of Port Harcourt, our esteemed host communities, the good people of Rivers State, and Nigerians across the nation.
This day commemorates the sufferings of Christ at Golgotha and the sacrifice that brought salvation to mankind; pointing us to the sacrificial love, humility, and redemptive grace demonstrated through the life and death of Jesus Christ our dear Lord.
For he was wounded for our transgressions and the chastisement of our peace was upon him and by his stripes we are healed.
The cross is not only a symbol of suffering, but also a powerful expression of courage, selflessness, forgiveness, and steadfast devotion to truth and justice.
We therefore call on us to rise above routine observances of this occasion and engage in deep personal reflection and moral introspection.
In a world increasingly marked by division, uncertainty, and moral complexity, the values of Christ; love for neighbour, compassion for the vulnerable, integrity in action, and hope in the face of adversity, remain ever relevant.
As a university community dedicated to knowledge, character, and service, we must embody these virtues in our daily engagements: in our classrooms, our research, and our interactions with one another. He took our place on the cross and we ought to live for one another.
Let this Good Friday renew in us a shared commitment to peace, unity, and purposeful living. Let it inspire us to rise above indifference, and to contribute meaningfully to national growth and human flourishing.
Ephesians 4v9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
For in the quiet shadow of the cross, hope is not buried, it rises, eternal and unbroken, whispering that even in sacrifice, love never dies.
Wishing us all a memorable Good Friday.
