The University of Port Harcourt is proud to announce its participation in the MESITA Project — Master of Science in Smart Farming and IoT in Agriculture — a European Union-funded initiative established to develop postgraduate capacity in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) for agriculture through a consortium of partner institutions.
The project is designed to support the development and implementation of a Master of Science programme in Smart Farming and IoT in Agriculture, with emphasis on equipping students, researchers, and institutions with the knowledge, competencies, and practical skills required to respond to modern agricultural challenges through innovative digital technologies.
At the University of Port Harcourt, the programme is domiciled in the Centre for Information and Telecommunication Engineering (CITE), a hub for advanced teaching, research, and innovation in information and communication technologies. The Centre is currently led by Prof. Eseosa Omorogiuwa, Director of CITE.
Through its participation in MESITA, the University of Port Harcourt will work collaboratively with consortium partners on curriculum development, institutional strengthening, academic exchange, research advancement, and the promotion of technology-driven solutions for agricultural transformation. The initiative is expected to deepen interdisciplinary learning and expand opportunities for innovation in smart and sustainable agriculture.
The MESITA Project aligns with the University’s broader commitment to academic excellence, internationalisation, capacity building, and impactful research. It also highlights the institution’s readiness to embrace emerging technologies in addressing societal needs and in preparing graduates for leadership in a rapidly evolving global knowledge economy.
By integrating AI and IoT applications into agriculture, the project will contribute to improved productivity, sustainability, efficiency, and food security, while strengthening the capacity of higher education institutions to deliver relevant and future-oriented postgraduate training.
The University of Port Harcourt looks forward to the successful implementation of the project and to sharing updates on its milestones, activities, and achievements in the course of execution.
