The Federal Government has directed the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Ndowa E. S. By a letter from the Federal Ministry of Education dated 29th May, 2020, Professor Ogali will oversee the affairs of the University,  while the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Professor Lale, proceeds on his Leave which takes effect as from Friday, June 12, 2020. Professor Lale assumed office on 13th July, 2015 for a single five-year tenure that would terminate on 12th July, 2020.

A letter signed on behalf of the Honourable Minister by the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, Architect Sonny Echono, authorised Professor Lale to hand over the affairs of the institution to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), who shall oversee the affairs of the institution until a substantive Vice Chancellor is appointed.

The Permanent Secretary, on behalf of the Minister, Malam Adamu Adamu, wished Professor Lale well in his future endeavours following his successful tenure in office as the 8th Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt.
