The Federal Government has directed the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Ndowa E. S. Lale, to hand over the affairs of the University to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Regina E. Ogali, pending the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor.
By a letter from the Federal Ministry of Education dated 29th May, 2020, Professor Ogali will oversee the affairs of the University, while the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Professor Lale, proceeds on his Leave which takes effect as from Friday, June 12, 2020. Professor Lale assumed office on 13th July, 2015 for a single five-year tenure that would terminate on 12th July, 2020.
A letter signed on behalf of the Honourable Minister by the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, Architect Sonny Echono, authorised Professor Lale to hand over the affairs of the institution to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), who shall oversee the affairs of the institution until a substantive Vice Chancellor is appointed.
The Permanent Secretary, on behalf of the Minister, Malam Adamu Adamu, wished Professor Lale well in his future endeavours following his successful tenure in office as the 8th Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt.
It would be recalled that the Federal Government had dissolved the Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt last Wednesday, 27th May, 2020 in exercise of the powers conferred on the President under Section 2A of The Universities (Miscellaneous Profession, Amendment Act, 2003).
