Profile of Prof. Christiana Ulumma Omego

Christiana Ulummna Omego is a Professor of Language, Communication and Media Studies. She graduated from the University of Port Harcourt where she bagged Degrees in Linguistics and Communication Studies. She has a PhD in Linguistics and Communication Studies, a Postgraduate Diploma in Communication Studies and a Master of Arts Degree in Communication Studies. She served as Acting Head of Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Port Harcourt. She is currently the Director of the Centre for Children Development and Communication Disorders (CCDCD) at the University of Port Harcourt. Her Research interests are in the areas of Journalism, Press freedom, Freedom of expression, Media theories, Book publishing and Gender Studies. Professor Omego has published scholarly articles in both local and international journals. She is a member of many Professional and Academic Bodies such as the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE), Journalism Educators Foundation, among others. Profile of Prof. Aniefiok Jackson Udoudo

Aniefiok Jackson Udoudo is a Professor of Journalism. He obtained B.A. Communication Arts; M.A. Mass Communication (Public Relations & Advertising); and PhD Mass Communication (Print Journalism) from the University of Uyo. He has published widely in academic journals and contributed chapters to many edited books, both within and outside Nigeria. He has co-edited four books, two of which he is the lead-editor. Professor Udoudo is the author of Book Publishing in Nigeria: An Introduction and The Dynamics of Newspaper Editing. A journalist, he was a columnist with New Waves newspaper, owned by Bayelsa State Government. Professor Udoudo’s research interests are in journalism, public relations, environmental communication, communication and culture, and communication and gender representation. He is Fellow, African Council for Communication Education (FACCE), Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration (FCAI), Member, South African Communications Association (SACOMM), Member, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Associate Member, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (ANIPR), Member, Association of Media and Communication Researchers of Nigeria (AMCRON), Member, Association of Communication Scholars and Practitioners of Nigeria (ACSPN), and Member, International Communication Association (ICA). He is the founding Chairman of Journalism Educators Foundation (JEF). Professor Udoudo is a former Head, Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies. It was during his tenure that he spearheaded the establishment of Faculty of Communication and Media Studies in the University. Professor Udoudo’s dream team is made of young scholars desirous of making research a priority.

 

Profile of Prof. Christopher Ifeakachukwu Ochonogor

 

Christopher Ifeakachukwu Ochonogor is a Professor and pioneer Head of Department of the emergent Department of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. He obtained his BA and MA Degrees in Mass Communication from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and a PhD in Development Communication studies from the University of Port Harcourt. Dr Ochonogor’s research interest spans print journalism and development communication, especially the application of the personal and impersonal media in stimulating public acceptance of innovations in the areas such as health and culture. Dr Ochonogor has attended many national and international conferences and also belongs to different academic and professional associations, among which the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE), Journalism Educators Foundation (JEF), The Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria, (ACSPN) International Communication Association (ICA), among others. He is the contact person for UNICEF in the South=South Zone of Nigeria on the mainstreaming of Child Rights Curriculum. He has published many scholarly articles in local and international journals as well as co-authored, and co-edited several books and contributed chapters to books in different aspects communication studies. Profile of Dr Clement Afamefuna Asadu

Clement Afamefuna Asadu is a hardworking scholar of over 15 years of experience. He studied Mass Communication in the University of Nigeria Nsukka where he obtained B.A and M.A. He subsequently obtained a PhD in Development Communication in the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies. He is at present a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Port Harcourt.

He had lectured in the Department of Mass Communication, Madonna University, Okija, Anambra State. He also a facilitator in the Department of Mass Communication, National Open University of Nigeria, Port Harcourt Study Centre. He is the current Acting Head of Department (Sabbatical), Mass Communication, Edwin Clark University, Kiagbodo, Delta State. He has equally participated in many conferences and workshops organized by UNICEF, African Council for Communication Education (ACCE), Journalism Educators Foundation (JEF) and a host of other professional bodies. He specializes in Development Communication and New Media with emphasis on Social and Behaviour Change Communication. He is also interested in health communication and the use of new media to drive social change. His Hobbies include writing, reading and building friendship. Profile of Mr Emeka Baynald Iroham

Mr Emeka Baynald Iroham is a lecturer 1 in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. He holds the HND Mass Communication, from the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State; PGD and MA in Communication Studies from the University of Port Harcourt. He also holds the MBA in Advertising and Public Relation from the Imo State University, Owerri. His research interest is in print journalism and development communication. Mr Iroham has attended several conferences and published articles in revered journals both locally and internationally. He is a member of the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ), African Council for Communication Education (ACCE), Journalism Educators Foundation (JEF).

Ngozi Comfort Omojunikanbi holds a Ph.D in Communication Studies from the University of Port Harcourt (2019). She is presently a Lecturer 1 in the Department of Journalism & Media Studies, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Port Harcourt. Her job description includes lecturing both undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as supervision of research projects. She also undertakes any other administrative assignment given by management. Dr. Omojunikanbi Ngozi’s research interest revolves around Crisis Communication, Health Communication, Political Communication, Children, Youths and Media, Corporate Communication, Journalism, Media Studies and Public Relation. Profile of Dr Ben-Collins E. Ndinojuo

Dr. Ben-Collins E. Ndinojuo is a lecturer 1 in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. He holds the BA, MA, and Ph.D Degrees in Linguistics & Communication Studies from the University of Port Harcourt. He also holds the HND (NIST) Geology/Mining Technology  and PGD Geology  respectively from the University of Port harcourt. His research interests include print and digital media,  environmental communication, oil and gas reporting, gender in the media, and political communication. His two most recent publications analyzed the representation of face masks as a preventive measure against COVID-19 by Nigerian newspapers and the journalistic representation of women in the reportage of military operations against Boko Haram in northeast Nigeria. Profile of Dr Otikor Njanubok Samuel

Otikor Njanubok Samuel After 10 years of working as a Staff Writer/Senior Assistant Registrar in the Information,  Publications and Public Relations Unit, Dr Otikor Njanubok Samuel joined the emergent Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies as  Lecturer II in October 2021. Dr Samuel has research interest in print and new media studies. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Port Harcourt. He got his Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication from the then Rivers State University of Science and Technology (now Rivers State University), Nkpolu-Oroworukwo. Dr Samuel has authored and co-authored several publications both locally and internationally. Dr. Esther Joe -Daniel Joe got her PhD,  M.A. and PGD in  Communication Studies from the University of Port Harcourt . She obtained her first degree in English from the University of Uyo. She has contributed articles for publication in book chapters , also attended and presented papers at  international and local conferences. Her research interest covers  Rhetoric , Cultural and Political Communication.  She is a member of International Communication Association (ICA) Nigeria, African Council For Communication Education (ACCE) Nigeria,  and Association of Communication Scholars and Practitioners of Nigeria (ACSPN).  She is a lecturer in the department of Journalism and Media Studies University of Port Harcourt. 

 

Profile of Mrs Edith James Epoke

Edith James Epoke is Lecturer II in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Her major interest is in Global Media and the way the digital sphere works in the 21st century. Election and media coverage are major intricate part of her works as she tries to understand the role journalists play during election processes. Her past works include elections held in previous years and the way the media could influence the outcome. She is greatly interested in media and how it works too during pandemics prior to the last COVID experience.

Her current work on journalists and laws that protect them is an expository on how journalists are treated especially in Nigeria and how much the government tries to stifle them.
