Godwin Bassey okon is a man given to zest and diligence. His academic pedigree oscillates between University of Uyo and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Communication Arts, Master of Arts (MA) Mass Communication, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mass Communication.

He has an undying passion for methodical investigations and sound research with several books and journal articles as proof of his scholarship. Interestingly, In recognition of his strides in the knowledge industry, he was honoured with the 5th Distinguished Nation Builder Award in 2008.

In terms of university administration, besides being the immediate past Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, he has held numerous positions like: Departmental Coordinator (Centre for Continuing Education), Chairman, Curriculum& Instructions Committee, Head of Department and External Examiner to about twelve (12) prominent universities across three geo-political zones in Nigeria. He also holds membership with cognate professional bodies like the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE), International Environmental Communication Association (IECA), and the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) with glaring visibility in national and international conferences/ symposia. Interestingly, his research profile can be accessed on Research Gate/ Google scholar with more than 45,600 downloads to his credit. He is at present a Fellow of the African Council for Communication Education (FACCE).

For one given to constructive reflections, his hobbies revolve around playing chess, scrabble, and listening to inspirational music.

 Academic Track:

Obiageli Pauline Ohiagu is a Professor of Digital and Strategic Communication in the Department of Public Relations & Advertising, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies. She was the Pioneer Head of the Department; obtained a PhD in Communication Studies (ICT, Public Relations & Advertising) from the University of Port Harcourt in 2013. Earlier in 2005 she got a Master’s Degree in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos, and in 2002 graduated with a First Class Degree in Mass Communication from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

From 2011-2012, Prof. Ohiagu was a Fulbright visiting doctoral research fellow at the University of Wisconsin, Madison (USA). Since 2012 till date she has been a member of the Society of Phenomenology and the Media (SPM), affiliated to the National University in California (USA) where she served variously as member of the Board of Directors and the Advisory Board of SPM. Prof. Ohiagu is also an alumnus of the Christian University of Applied Social Sciences, Ede, The Netherlands (Christelijke Hogeschool Ede) where she did a course in International Corporate Communication in 2015 before proceeding to The North-West University (NWU) in South Africa for a Postdoctoral Fellowship which ended in 2016. Same year she also participated in  a course facilitated by the Partnership  for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR)  which held in Nairobi, Kenya on (i) Advanced Research Design and  (ii) Interpretative Methods and Ethnography. Still in 2016 she attended a conference organized by World Journalism Education Commission in Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand. She has participated in many other international communication conferences/workshops in other parts of the world like SPM conferences that held in  the Autonomous University of Puebla, Mexico and National University, California (USA); local conferences/workshops in the School of Journalism and Communication, University of Wisconsin Madison (USA); Christian University of Applied Social Sciences, Ede, The Netherlands (Christelijke Hogeschool Ede) and The North-West University (NWU) in South Africa.

Research Interest/Area of Expertise

Her research focus is on Digital Communication and Strategic Communication. In both areas she has published a number of scholarly articles and books that make an intersection of how digital forms of communication impact on the society generally and corporate bodies in particular. She is interested in investigating how new media generally and Internet applications specifically are used for different purposes by diverse people; as well as the trends, techniques, directions, implications, etc. of online communications for  contemporary society and corporate bodies. Her research also revolves around examining strategic communications of organizations in a digitized age and their consequences.

Self-Description  

A competent and convincing lecturer, with over 15 years of teaching experience in several universities; very skilful in making learning a simplified experience even for the not so intelligent students in the following areas Digital Communication (Search Engine Optimization Strategies, Web Marketing Strategies, Social Media Marketing, etc.) and Corporate Communication (Relationships and Conversation Marketing, Strategic Communications, Corporate Relationships Management, Brand Marketing etc.).

Experience in External Examination

2021- 2024 University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She served as the External Examiner for their Masters’ students involving the examination of over 40 Master’s students.

Hobby:

Travelling is a great adventure that has taken her to many parts of the world such as United States, Netherlands, Belgium, New Zealand, Mexico, South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, Uganda and Tanzania for one academic activity or the other. She is also open to new challenges and adventures in this regard especially for academic collaborations. She engages also in mild sports activities that enhance her health well-being such as walking, cycling, and tennis.

 

Profile of  Prof. Kingsley Onyebuchim Nworgu

Kingsley Onyebuchim Nworgu is a lecturer in the Department of Advertising, lmo State University. He is a Professor of Mass Communication, with specialisation in Public Relations, Advertising and Media Studies.(PAMS). Currently, he is on sabbatical leave in the Department of Public Relations & Advertising (PRAD), University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He obtained, BA ( Hons) in Mass Communication,1995, MSc., Public Relations, 1999, MA, Mass Communication, 2002 and PhD, Mass Communication, 2014, all from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. 

He has taught in over seven universities in Nigeria on full-time, adjunct, sabbatical, and visiting basis. He has been in the editorial boards  of both local and international journals. Also, he has published widely in both national and international journals, with over 30articles, 35 book chapters in mainline books  and  12 sole authored, co-authored, and edited books to his credit. He has attended conferences, seminars and workshops both in Nigeria and abroad. He is a Public and Conference speaker and has consulted for DFID, UNICEF, Nigerian Breweries Plc. and several government establishments at State and federal levels. 

K. O Nworgu's research interests include: Communication and media effects; electronic advertising and reputation management studies. He belongs to some professional and academic bodies.

Sado obtained a Doctor of Philosophy, (Ph.D.) Communication Studies with special interest in broadcasting from the University of Port Harcourt. He has been a faculty member at the University of Port Harcourt since the year 2000, where he has been teaching courses in Public Relations, Media Ethics and marketing communications at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Dr. Sado’s research interest includes media ethics, political communication, social responsibility and mediatisation.  He is a member of the African Council for Communication, Education (ACCE), Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Journalism Educators Foundation (JEF) Nigeria, among others. He has been a reviewer for ACCE. He has published and contributed book chapters over the years. A rights and labour activist, Sado's hobbies include photograpy, travelling, community organisation and mobilisation.

 

Profile of Dr Sunny Mbazie

Dr. S.C.J Mbazie is an erudite scholar in strategic communication. He cut his teeth in lectureship in the late 1990s as a part-time lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication, Abia State University , Uturu. At present, he is a Senior Lecturer in the communication component of the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies, University of Port Harcourt, as well as the HOD of PRAD in the same university. Dr. Mbazie studied Mass Communication at the undergraduate and graduate levels of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and also did a doctorate at the University of Port Harcourt, Choba. He is currently the Head of Department ( Public Relations & Advertsing).

Faustinus Ginikanwa Nwachukwu holds degrees of Bachelor of Arts (B. A.), Communication Arts, Master of Arts (M. A.), Mass Communication and Doctor of Philosophy, (Ph.D.) Mass Communication with specialization in Public Relations and Advertising all from the prestigious University of Uyo, Nigeria. Dr. Nwachukwu has been teaching Communication courses since November 2000. He had taught at the National Institute for Nigerian Languages, Aba, Nigeria before joining the University of Port Harcourt, where he lectures mass communication courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  He has also taught Mass Communication courses on part time at Abia State University, Uturu and Enugu State University of Science and Technology Enugu, Nigeria. . He is currently the External Examiner, Mass Communication Department, Edwin Clerk University, Kiagbodo, Delta State, Nigeria. Dr. Nwachukwu’s research interest includes Integrated Marketing Communications, Communication Research, Studies in Communication and Language interface, Intercultural Communication, Studies in New Media, among others.  He is a member of many professional bodies such as the African Council for Communication, Education (ACCE), Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Association of Child Development and Communication Disorder (ACDCDN) Nigeria, Journalism Educators Foundation (JEF) Nigeria, International Communication Association (ICA).  A resource person and communication consultant for Unicef for several years, Dr. Nwachukwu has been a member of the peer review groups for many Communication Associations journals and books including ACCE, JEF, ACDCDN and the International Communication and Research Journal (ICRJ), a publication of the International Communication Division (ICD) of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication Educators based in the USA. Dr. FG as he is fondly called has attended many conferences/Workshops locally and internationally and has widely published many articles both in local and international journals and books.

Dr. Nwachukwu’s hobbies include physical exercises, travelling, reading and building network of friends with problem solving minds.
