Engr. (Dr.) Sunday Sunday Ikiensikimama is a full Professor of Petroleum & Gas Engineering. He is the Chair Occupant of the Shell JV-Aret Adams Professorial Chair in Petroleum Engineering, as well as the Coordinator Partnership for Skills in Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology (PASET), at the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He has a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Chemical Engineering, Masters’ Degrees both in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering from the University of Port Harcourt. He holds a Ph.D in Chemical Engineering majoring in Oil & Gas PVT Characterization from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. He is a registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Registered Environmental Specialist with National Registry of Environmental Practitioners (NREP), USA and a Pressure, Volume and Temperature (PVT) Expert who has more than One Hundred and Twenty (120) peer reviewed articles in both National and International Journals as well as conferences and festschrifts; and some Books, reports and manuals to his credit. He is an Erudite scholar and has researched widely in the following areas: Process Development & Optimization, Reservoir Engineering, Production Engineering, Petroleum Economics & Risk Management in Petroleum Ventures, Refining & Petrochemicals and Solution Development. He was Head of Department of Petroleum & Gas Engineering, University of Port Harcourt (2010 -2014). He was also the pioneer coordinator of the Post Graduate Diploma programme (PGD) at the Institute of Petroleum Studies (IPS) for Seven (7) years and helped to develop the existing Centres of Excellence in IPS relating to: Gas, Refining and Petrochemicals; Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (COHSE); Advance Research in Petroleum Engineering & Project Development, Offshore Technology Institute (OTI) and the World Bank African Centre of Excellence in Oilfield Chemicals Research (ACE-CEFOR), University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at Kenyatta University (KU), Nairobi, Kenya and serves as a Thematic Lead for Petroleum Production Engineering in the Department of Gas and Petroleum Engineering, KU for the past five (5) years. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Covenant University, Otta, Nigeria. He is one of the Resource Persons at ACE-CEFOR, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He has supervised over Twenty (20) PhDs and currently supervising over Sixteen (16) Ph.D researches in Reservoir Engineering, Enhance Oil Recovery, PVT relationship of Reservoir Fluids, Production Engineering, Flow Assurance as well as Petroleum Economics & Risk Management in Petroleum Ventures. He is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, Ghana and has been very productive for the past Eight (8) years teaching Enhance Oil Recovery (masters and undergraduates), Advance Reservoir Engineering, Petroleum Refining & Petrochemical Engineering and also did his one (1) year Sabbatical leave at the same University. He is also a Visiting Professor at the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja, Nigeria. He has been a major resource person for Training collaborations between Total E & P Nigeria and the Institute of
Petroleum Studies (IPS) Uniport for the past Eight (8) years. Earlier in his career, he spent some years (2005-2008) at Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Nigeria as a Research Fellow at the Reservoir Engineering and Research and
Development (R & D) Department for his Ph.D. He has spent more than two decades in the academia, undertaking Teaching, Research and Community Service. He also does consultancy for companies in his chosen fields. He is the Chairman of the Graduate Board of the Department of Petroleum & Gas Engineering, University of Port Harcourt. He is a member of learned associations; some of which are: Society of Petroleum Engineers International (SPEI), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE); Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE) and Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON).
He has been an active member of SPE and has attended conferences from 2006 till date and has participated in various capacities as in technical sessions (TS) as Chair and co-Chair. He was awarded the Prof. G. K. Falade & Prof. Chi U. Ikoku Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty Award at the NAICE 2022 Annual Banquet & Awards held on 3rd August 2022 during the 44th SPE Nigeria Annual International conference and Exhibition, 1st– 3rd August 2022; Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, Nigeria. He is currently Director Institute of Petroleum and Energy Studies (IPES) University of Port Harcourt.
