UniPort Students Win WAAW Scholarship

Out of 1600 entries across Africa, two students of the University of Port Harcourt have emerged winners of this year's scholarship of the Working to Advance Science and Technology Education for African Women (WAAW) Foundation. Miss Precious Oscar-Daniels and Goodness Odah, both Second Year students of the Departments of Agricultural Economics and Extension and Mechanical Engineering, respectively, emerged winners of the scholarship alongside five others from Nigeria. Speaking to a UniPort News Correspondent, Miss OscarDaniels, disclosed that WAAW Foundation established the endowment to support Undergraduate African young women who have demonstrated a commitment to completing their education in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in an African university. She commended the Foundation for the scholarship promising to fully utilise the opportunity. “WAAW is a non-profit organisation with a mission to empower girls in Africa. The Foundation encourages their engagement in technology; entrepreneurship and innovation to benefit Africa while the scholarship is aimed at helping the recipients reach their educational goals,” a visiblyelated Miss Oscar-Daniels said, adding that she also received the Margaret Scholarship funded by a Nigerian-based Non Governmental Organisation, Edugrant for indigent female students in tertiary institutions.
