Uniport Hosts RMD

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Owunari Georgewill, played host to Nollywood movie icon, Mr Richard Mofe-Damijo, on Thursday, December 9, 2021 in his office. The movie icon who was at the university as a guest speaker at an event organized by the Nollywood International Centre of Excellence (NICE), University of Port Harcourt, was led in a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor by the Director of the centre, Dr Sam Dede and the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor John Yesibo.
Informing the Vice Chancellor on the mission of the Nollywood star in the University, Dr Dede who himself is also a Nollywood veteran, stated that RMD was in the University to give the needed expository industry experience to students of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies and other aspiring artistes. The Director further stated that RMD's visit was also aimed at rekindling the lofty achievements of the University of Port Harcourt in the movie industry. He assured the Vice Chancellor that with the support of individuals like RMD, NICE was poised to become the number one film making centre in the country. He also stated that NICE with the support of management and other relevant stakeholders will soon build the first On-Campus film village in the University of Port Harcourt.
In his welcome remarks, the Vice Chancellor Professor Georgewill Owunari, expressed joy at the visit stating that the presence of RMD in the university will not only impact well on the students, but would also attract enormous goodwill to the University. The Vice Chancellor also challenged the leadership of the faculty to recommend individuals in the pedigree of RMD for the position of honorary professors. He stated that such gestures will adequately prepare the university to access and take advantage of the benefits of the wider networks of such individuals. He therefore pledged management's support to the operations of NICE and informed the Director that the university was looking forward to more fruitful collaborations and networking opportunities in the industry.
