VC Receives FRSC Sector Commander, Pledges Improved Partnership

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Rivers State Command, Salisu Galadinma has commended the appointment of Professor Georgewill Owunari as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt. Mr. Galadinma made the
Commendation when he led a management team from the command on a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor. The visit which occurred on Thursday, October 6, 2022, took place at the Vice-Chancellor's Committee Room.

While addressing the Vice-Chancellor on the purpose of the visit, Mr. Galadinma said that the team was at the University to officially introduce him as the new Sector Commander of the Rivers State Command. He said the visit was also aimed at consolidating the existing relationship between the Commission and the University.

Mr. Galadinma who further used the opportunity of the visit to plead with the Vice Chancellor for the allocation of a plot of land to enable the Command build a permanent office for the FRSC Unit of the University, stated that he was determined to sanitise all sectors of the transportation ecosystem within the state. “I want us to improve what we met here. We will sanitise the transport system within the university and the state. We wouldn't mind putting a speed limit in the university,” the Sector Commander said.

While listing his vision for the state, Mr. Galadinma said his host that the Command recently introduced a number plate and driver's license issuance centre in order to ease encumbrances in the issuance of number plates and driver's license in the state. Mr. Galadinma who encouraged Principal staff of the University to take advantage of the initiative, also invited the Vice-Chancellor to the flag off of the 2022' Mber Month Sensitisation Campaign.'

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor(Administration), Professor Clifford Ofurum appreciated the Sector Commander for the visit and assured him that “Management will do everything within its powers to protect the relationship between the University and the Federal Road Safety Corps” The Vice Chancellor, who also accepted the invitation from the Commander, assured that Management will look into the request for land allocation by the Corp. He, however, pleaded with the delegation to address the growing traffic challenges around the University of Port Harcourt axis of the East West Road. Highlights of the visit included the conferment of 'Honourary Special Marshall' on the Vice Chancellor.
